Project Blue Book Case File
De Borgia, MontanaAugust 1952
Summary
On August 17, 1952, a family of four near De Borgia, Montana saw an unusual object hovering at low altitude. According to witness reports, the object was silver and oval in shape, and it made a powerful humming sound described as roughly half the noise level of a conventional aircraft. The object hovered and quivered, then disappeared to the south in a steep vertical climb at very high speed. The sighting lasted only a very short time.
A second sighting occurred the same day at 1541 hours (3:41 p.m.) when an observer at a Ground Observer Corps post in De Borgia reported seeing a round or slightly oblong object with bright, shiny aluminum coloring. This object also made a humming sound. It flew away at a fairly low altitude in a southeasterly direction until it went out of sight.
The Air Force received reports from both sightings and classified the case as unidentified. The file mentions the witnesses were considered reliable, including one with military service experience. Weather conditions at the time were noted as clear with slight wind. However, the OCR quality of the remaining pages is severely degraded, and specific conclusions or investigative findings that might have been recorded are not legible in the available text.
