Summary

On April 9, 1955, a civilian in Oakland, California reported a strange object in the sky. The sighting happened in the evening, around 8:20 p.m. local time. The witness was driving across the Oakland Bay area when the object was seen.

The object was round and about the size of the planet Venus. It glowed and was slightly green in color. It appeared to fall straight down from the sky. The whole sighting lasted only about three seconds.

The Air Force record card lists the case as possibly astronomical. The card notes it may have been a meteor. The short time of the sighting made a firm identification difficult. No further investigation was authorized.
