Summary

On April 16, 1954, at about 8:15 p.m. local time at Sandy Beach near Oahu, Honolulu, a civilian observer reported one object. It was a brilliant red light hovering at about 3,000 to 4,000 feet. The object stayed still for about one and a half minutes. It then sped away at a high rate toward a Marine Corps air station. As it moved, it showed a tail of light like a neon sign. The weather was very good with clear visibility. Checks found no aircraft or ship missions in the area, though a C-45 landed at the nearby Marine station at 2230 (10:30 p.m.). The Air Force conclusion was possibly aircraft.
