Summary

On July 9, 1948, a USAF pilot near North End, Osborn, Ohio reported seeing a pale yellowish white luminous object between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. at an altitude of 3,000 to 4,000 feet. The object moved from east to west and was observed for one to two seconds. The Air Force investigator noted that the description matched a quarter moon rising in the east-southeast, but the sighting time and lunar position did not align. The investigator considered whether scudding clouds, auroral streamers, floodlights, or searchlights might explain the sighting. No obvious astronomical explanation was found.
