Summary

On August 20, 1950, around 11:30 a.m. local time, a U.S. military officer at Nicosia Airfield, Cyprus, saw a bright object. The case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record system for unidentified flying object reports. The witness was a liaison officer, and two other Air Force officers with him also saw it.

He heard an aircraft overhead and looked up. He saw a small round or elliptical bright object moving from straight overhead toward the west. Its path passed across the arc of the sun, which was about 15 degrees below the top of the sky. The object stayed bright even against the sun. It followed a somewhat erratic westerly path at a terrific speed until it disappeared, about 30 degrees above the horizon. It was in view about 15 to 20 seconds, with no sound the men could separate from a nearby plane.

A check found a Turkish State Airlines C-47 was in the area, which the officer believed was the plane he heard, not the bright object. The Air Force record card lists the case as unidentified.
