Summary

In February 1956, a woman in New York City, New York, saw a strange object at about 3:00 a.m. The report was sent to the Air Force about two years after the event. The observer was a civilian who had lived in the city for many years.

While walking home through the Greenwich Village area, she saw a small cone shaped object moving at great speed in an open space between two apartment buildings. It seemed headed directly into the wall of one building. The head of the cone held a brilliant blue white light. The tail had what looked like fins, and the object gave off a soft glow. Despite the bright light, there was no reflection on the buildings, and there was no sound. The object suddenly vanished where it should have hit the wall, leaving instant blackness. The sighting was brief.

The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force noted the report came two years after the event and that the object resembled a meteor. The conclusion was that it was probably a meteor, possibly at a great distance rather than between the buildings.
