Summary

On July 21, 1959, in New Orleans, an observer reported an object in the night sky. The sighting was reported through the Air Force's unidentified flying object record system.

The witness described a round object about 2 feet in diameter. It was red-orange, then white, then red-orange again. It made a sound like the wings of a hummingbird. The object traveled back and forth from northeast to southwest at about 20 miles per hour and was in sight about 8 to 12 minutes.

The record card noted a possible reflection of lights from an amusement park on low clouds. It noted there was no explanation for the sound.
