Summary
On July 2, 1956, at 3:01 a.m., a military pilot at Naval Air Station North Island, California, reported sighting one object with a teardrop shape and tapered end at the bottom. The object was silver in color, about the size of a silver dollar, and appeared to have ropes hanging down. The sighting was accidental and showed very little movement. The object remained in sight for about two hours until darkness fell. Four aircraft attempted to reach the object but failed. Second Lieutenant J.A. Maytor, director of the 751st AC&W Squadron, concluded the object was a balloon.
