Project Blue Book Case File
Nandi-Honolulu/Near Canton, October 1962October 1962
Summary
On October 25, 1962, two pilots aboard a commercial airliner flying the Nandi to Honolulu route, near Canton Island in the Pacific, reported an object off their aircraft. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record system for unidentified flying object reports.
The pilots described a light, dull red object moving parallel to their heading of about 047 degrees. It appeared at about 20 to 22 degrees above the horizon and was estimated at 100 to 200 miles away. It moved at high speed and disappeared over the horizon. The length of the sighting was not reported.
The Air Force said the object was probably a satellite, but because the duration was not reported, the case was listed as insufficient data.
