Summary

On February 2, 1962, a civilian witness near Muskwa, British Columbia, Canada, reported an object in the sky. The sighting was made at about 1641 GMT, during the day, and lasted about 1 minute.

The object was round and reddish in color, about the size of a washtub. It was described as a brilliant fire falling toward the ground from the northwest. It broke up into two funnels of fire and disappeared below the trees. A nearby weather station at Fort St. John reported a meteor in the same area at about 1640 GMT.

The Air Force record card lists this case as astronomical, a meteor. The card notes that although the witness reported a 1 minute duration, the time was probably overestimated, and the witness most likely saw the meteor reported by the Fort St. John weather bureau.
