Summary

On the night of June 30, 1954, witnesses at Mobile, Alabama, reported a brilliant silver object in the sky. The sighting lasted from about 19 to 62 seconds depending on the witness. The object looked similar to a jet aircraft and made no sound and left no trail. Its extreme brightness drew attention.

Control tower operators at Brookley Air Force Base saw the object make a 360 degree turn over the city, then disappear to the northeast. Several civilian residents in Alabama and Mississippi also reported it. Radar at the base showed an echo in the area around the same time.

A news report said the base described the object as appearing to be a jet type aircraft of new design with short stubby wings. The Air Force record card listed nothing that conflicted with an aircraft as the cause.
