Summary

On January 8, 1954, at about an evening hour near Millbrook, Alabama, civilians reported one object. The witnesses, a husband and wife, saw it between Millbrook and Prattville. The object was over the area, and many aircraft were flying locally and in the traffic pattern at nearby Maxwell Air Force Base.

The object was half-moon shaped. The report listed no other details such as color, sound, or trail. The weather was clear with about five miles visibility.

The Air Force record lists the conclusion as a balloon. A lighted weather balloon had been released from Maxwell Air Force Base at about the time of the sighting. The sighting location was about 10 to 17 miles northwest of the release point, and the case is recorded as a confirmed balloon sighting.
