Summary

On May 20, 1955, a civilian in Malvern, Pennsylvania saw a single object. It was an intermittent bright light. The light traveled from the south toward the north-northwest. The sighting lasted from about 30 seconds to one minute.

The light moved at a speed estimated at over 1,000 miles per hour. It made no sound, except for a thunder type sound noted when first seen. As it flew, a bright light appeared about every twenty degrees of arc, with no light in between. The sky was dark, so no object itself was visible. A Navy speedletter forwarded the case after a delay.

The Air Force noted that over a month passed between the sighting and the first report, which lowered the value of further investigation. None was authorized. Officials thought the witness may have seen an aircraft, possibly a jet, crossing the sky at high speed with running lights flashing on and off.
