Little Saba, Caribbean Sea, February 1962February 1962

Insufficient Data

Summary

On February 23, 1962, a civilian airline pilot near Little Saba in the Caribbean Sea reported one bright object. The pilot thought it was a meteor falling into the sea. The object descended into the water at great speed with a red haze around it. It lit up the sky and then disappeared at water level. Another flight in the area later spotted a ship nearby. The duration was not recorded. The Air Force noted that the red color might suggest a reentering object, but the object did not break up and there was no known satellite decay for that date. The record card concluded the sighting was a meteor.
