Summary

On December 6, 1958, a military weather observer at the control tower at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, reported a falling object. The observer was already looking in the direction where it appeared. The object was in view about 2 seconds.

The object was round, about the diameter of a lead pencil held at arm's length. It was yellow with reddish fringes and became a dull red glow just before disappearing. It had no tail, trail, sound, or other features. It was first seen about 4 to 5 degrees above the horizon on a bearing of 105 degrees and appeared to fall straight down, disappearing at or just above the horizon.

The weather was clear with 15 miles of visibility. The observer checked with nearby control towers, and several other towers had seen the same object to their east and northeast. The reporting officer concluded the object was a larger than usual meteorite. The Air Force concluded the object was astronomical, a meteor.
