Summary

On the evening of January 24, 1958, a group of people in a parked car on Sunrise Mountain near Las Vegas, Nevada noticed a blue light in the distance. What began as a curious sighting quickly turned into an encounter that lasted roughly 30 to 45 minutes.

According to witness accounts in the file, one person in the car observed a long, dark object approaching from behind. The object appeared roughly twice the length of an automobile and emitted a greenish glow. It drew closer over the course of 10 to 15 minutes until it was only 6 to 17 feet away. When one witness opened the car door, they felt what they described as a cold blast of air. The group flashed a light at the object, which then withdrew about 10 to 20 feet. The witnesses got back in the car and drove away at 50 to 60 miles per hour. The object followed at a distance of approximately 25 feet to the right and slightly behind as they traveled roughly one mile. It matched the car's movements, even when the car made sharp turns. The object eventually disappeared when the car passed through a deep dip in the road.

The Air Force investigation noted that the reporting officer considered the witnesses unreliable. The OCR quality of some investigative pages is poor, making certain technical details difficult to read with confidence. The file concludes that the evaluation was "unknown," meaning the Air Force could not definitively explain the sighting. This case file contains 7 pages as held by the National Archives.
