Summary

On November 11, 1956, the crew of an Air Force C-54 transport saw one object near Goose Bay, Labrador, on a route between Goose Bay and Frobisher Bay. The object was in view for about 15 to 20 seconds while the aircraft flew at about 12,000 feet.

The crew described a fast moving amber light about 10 miles to the left of their aircraft. The light came up quickly from behind, passed at high speed, and pulled away ahead before it disappeared. The reporting aircraft was flying at about 200 knots. The navigator said he saw no navigation lights on the object. No other air traffic was known to be in the area, and there was no radar contact.

A later message reported that the object was probably a rocket. The ship USS Rushmore was conducting rocket firing tests in the Davis Strait area between Frobisher Bay and Goose Bay at the time. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record system for reports of unidentified flying objects.
