Summary

Three witnesses in La Puente, California observed an unusual object in March 1962. The object was described as aircraft-like, with white lights on top and bottom and red lights in four other positions. The witnesses estimated the object's speed at between 30 and 75 miles per hour. A sound accompanied the object, resembling an electrical transformer with a low, steady tone and no oscillation.

The witnesses tracked the object's movement by watching it through tree branches near their location. They initially thought it might be an airplane of some kind, but the flight characteristics, speed, lighting pattern, and sound led them to consider that it was something unusual. The object appeared quite bright to them at first, though the exact duration of the sighting and how the object ultimately disappeared are unclear from the OCR'd material.

The Air Force investigators who evaluated this case noted that the three observers' accounts aligned with one another. The file indicates the case was rated as "unknown" in the Air Force's conclusion, meaning it did not match any conventional aircraft or identified phenomenon. The full case file, comprising 34 pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
