Summary

On May 8, 1955, a civilian Ground Observer Corps member in Klamath Falls, Oregon saw a single white object. It looked larger than the morning star. The sighting lasted more than an hour, about one hour and twelve minutes.

The object drifted slowly from the east to the southeast. The witness used binoculars for part of the time. Even so, it could not be positively identified as a balloon. The sky was clear with good visibility.

The Air Force compared the time, wind, and location to a weather balloon release point nearby. Because these conditions matched, the case was resolved as possibly a weather balloon. No further investigation was authorized.
