Summary

On September 18, 1957, someone in Kansas City, Missouri saw a round white object moving rapidly across the sky from north to south. The object was visible for three to five minutes. At one point it made a sharp turn and headed toward the northeast before disappearing from view.

The Air Force investigator who wrote up the case noted that the object's description, how long it stayed visible, and the path it flew all suggested the sighting was probably caused by an aircraft. The file lists the case evaluation as "unknown," though the case summary section indicates the Air Force believed it was probably a balloon.

The complete case file, consisting of seven pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
