Summary
On three nights, August 14, 15, and 16, 1961, civilians in Inwood, New York, reported flashes of light in the sky. The flashes were seen between about 2100 and 2300 (9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.). The report was filed on the Project 10073 record card, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The witnesses said each flash lasted about 2 to 4 seconds. The light was about the size of a baseball and orange in color. They spotted it while watching for a satellite. The object appeared before and after the satellite passed. It would go out, then reappear in another location and direction. The first time, it was at a 90 degree angle and traveling south.
The Air Force concluded there was insufficient information given to form a valid conclusion.
