Project Blue Book Case File
Howell, UtahJune 1956
Summary
On June 25, 1956, near Howell, Utah, two civilian observers aged 16 and 17 reported one object. It was a ground visual sighting. The object was in view for about four seconds.
The object was round and white, about the size of a nickel held at arm's length. It looked like a white glow with a trail of flame. One observer was driving a truck at the time and saw the object low in the sky. The object was descending. It then exploded.
The Air Force concluded on its Project 10073 record card, the official record for unidentified flying object reports, that the color and the trail of flame indicated a meteor. The duration supported this. The card stated that the explosion indicated a bolide type meteor.
