Summary

On February 18, 1951, near Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, an officer and airmen reported a strange object. The sighting lasted about one hour and 4 minutes. The object was watched continually during a trip from Holloman Air Force Base to Oscura, New Mexico.

Witnesses described it as white and orange, round and then conical in shape. It appeared about the size of a coffee cup held at arm's length. It seemed to hover and climb. It was near the horizon at first but rose to about 45 degrees, then disappeared as the sky grew lighter.

The Air Force recorded the case in Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports. The conclusion was that the object was definitely a star or planet.
