Summary

On September 5, 1954, at 10:55 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, a witness in Hillcrest Heights, Maryland reported seeing a circular object with light beams or rays radiating from it. The object appeared much like a star. It moved in an eastward to southeast direction with lateral variations up to 20 degrees. The object hovered but appeared to dart at times during the lateral movements. The observation lasted two minutes. The object was estimated to be between 12,000 and 50,000 feet in altitude. The observer was a major and rated pilot with 13 years of experience. Weather was clear. The observer stated it could not have been aircraft. The Air Force evaluation is listed as insufficient data for evaluation.
