Summary

On August 24, 1962, a forest lookout at Harvey Mountain, California, reported objects falling from the sky. The location was about 40 miles northwest of Susanville. The time was about 2100Z, in the afternoon.

The lookout saw about twelve disc-shaped, parachute-like objects of white reflective material flutter to the ground over a six to seven mile radius. Pieces of white tinfoil, about one fourth inch by six inches, were found scattered over a wide area and were collected for analysis.

The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force evaluated the sighting as a chaff drop. The pieces of foil were forwarded to the Foreign Technology Division.
