Summary

On June 1, 1955, a civilian Ground Observer Corps member in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania saw a single object. It was a round sphere, silver in color, about the size of a basketball. It was seen to descend from high in the sky toward some railroad tracks.

No further evidence was found later. The intelligence officer of an Air Force squadron stated that twelve other people were present at the time of the supposed sighting. Those witnesses reportedly saw nothing unusual.

The Air Force record lists the conclusion as an optical illusion. Officials said the fact that others saw nothing strongly suggested an optical illusion.
