Summary

On June 17, 1960, at Greenville Air Force Base in Mississippi, a military observer sighted an object at 6:28 p.m. local time. The witness described a very large yellow ball with a broken tail that had a green fringe. As it approached the horizon, the object turned bright yellow-white and burned out. The object traveled from east to west at a descending angle of approximately 75 degrees. The observer stated this sighting was different from the many meteors he had seen. The Air Force concluded the sighting was a probable astronomical event, likely a meteor.
