Summary

On September 20, 1961, in the evening, a civilian in Gaithersburg, Maryland, reported an object in the sky. The report was filed on the Project 10073 record card, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The witness was outdoors in a residential area on a clear night with many stars. The object appeared as a solid light, brighter than the brightest stars, and was described as three times as large as a star. The witness said it changed brightness. The color was noted as white. It was seen toward the west.

The Air Force conclusion text on the card is partly unclear but describes a bright white object moving to the west.
