Summary

On June 24 and 25, 1963, civilians reported a star-like object near Frankfort, New York. The witnesses were a husband and wife plus several other people. The case was recorded in Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The object looked like a star and could not be described in detail. It was seen on two nights. The witnesses estimated its height at about 100 miles. It traveled in a straight line, roughly north-northeast on one night, then east turning north on the next, before disappearing over the horizon. It was in sight for about 4 minutes each time. There was no sound and no other features.

A radar relay and scatter section identified the object as the Echo 1 satellite, which was making visible passes over the area. The reported times matched the satellite's data. The Air Force evaluated the case as the Echo 1 satellite.
