Summary

On January 2, 1963, an observer at Forbes Air Force Base, Kansas, reported a bright light in the southwestern sky. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record system for unidentified flying object reports.

The light changed color from orange to red and grew more brilliant. It was seen at about 20 degrees elevation in the southwest.

The Air Force said the description of a burning object moving through the sky pointed to a meteor.
