Project Blue Book Case File
Elmira, New YorkMarch 1953
Summary
On March 21, 1953, at about 1505 (3:05 p.m.) Eastern time, two civilian ground observers reported objects over Elmira, New York. The witnesses were Mr. Holup and Jack O'Neil of a ground observer post. The report reached the 655th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron.
The men reported six disc shaped objects close together, directly overhead and very high. The objects moved fast toward the north. They watched with binoculars for only a few seconds. The weather was clear with south winds.
Fighters in the general area were ordered to investigate but found nothing after circling for about 20 minutes. The objects were not picked up on radar at the site. Because the sighting was so brief, officials could not confirm it. The Air Force concluded the case was unidentified.
