Project Blue Book Case File
E Orange, NJ., March 1962March 1962
Summary
On a bright night with a full moon in March 1962, a 10-year-old in East Orange, New Jersey, heard a noise and looked up to see a light moving across the sky. The object traveled in a straight path from northeast to southwest, fading from sight within about three minutes. After it disappeared, the child looked around and spotted three additional lights in the sky.
The child completed an official Air Force questionnaire about the sighting. The form asked detailed questions about what the object looked like, how it moved, where it was positioned in the sky, and weather conditions at the time. The child drew sketches showing the object's path across the sky and attempted to describe its appearance and behavior.
The Air Force's official evaluation concluded the sighting was "probably aircraft." The duration of the observation and the flight characteristics reported were consistent with an airplane passing overhead, according to the case file. No further investigation details appear in the available records. The full case file, consisting of 12 pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
