Summary

On July 8, 1958, a civilian observer near Devils River, Texas reported seeing a round, white object about the size of a basketball with a long tail. The observer was looking for aircraft overhead when the object moved slowly northwest and faded from sight over the course of about one hour. The object was observed from the ground during daylight. No binoculars were used. The Air Force concluded the sighting was undoubtedly a balloon.
