Deephaven, MinnesotaMay 1952
Summary
On May 11, 1952, in Deephaven, Minnesota, about 12 miles west of Minneapolis, a civilian reported an unidentified flying object. The witness, a former liaison pilot during World War II who held the rank of captain in the reserves, watched from the driveway of his home at 8:58 p.m. The sky was clear.
The object moved at great speed on a heading of about 100 to 120 degrees, toward the east southeast or southeast. It was spherical with a short tail. At first the witness thought it was a falling star, but it was traveling in a horizontal plane. It was about as bright as a falling meteor.
The object carried no running or navigation lights, and its brightness did not fade during the sighting. No sound was heard, even when it passed directly overhead. The flight was watched for about 10 seconds, during which the object covered about 75 percent of the sky. On the Air Force record card, the case was marked Probably Astronomical.
