Summary

In May 1962, residents of Dayton, Ohio and surrounding areas reported seeing strange lights in the sky. The Dayton Air Force Base received about a dozen phone calls about unidentified flying objects during this period. According to the base's officer of the day report, the Dayton Police Department concluded that the sightings were most likely caused by a small aircraft equipped with flashing advertising lights flying over the area.

The Air Force filed this case with the conclusion that the objects were probably a balloon, though other possibilities listed included aircraft or astronomical phenomena. The file contains a detailed witness questionnaire with spaces for sketches and descriptions, though the OCR quality of the scanned pages makes it difficult to read most witness responses clearly.

The full case file, comprising 14 pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
