Summary

On May 16, 1960, a witness near Dallas, Texas, saw an object in the sky. The time was between about 8:50 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. local time.

The object was diamond-shaped. The witness compared its size to a small aircraft at 6,000 to 8,000 feet. It glowed red and was outlined with about 20 to 25 round lights. The witness estimated its speed at about three to four times the speed of a jet aircraft.

This report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force said it was possible the witness saw a meteor breaking up.
