Summary

On December 28, 1960, at 1740 (5:40 p.m.), a witness near Crescent City, California reported one illuminated object shaped like a short, thick cigar. It was about the size of a bean seed at arm's length. The object was a brilliant, unusual green that grew brighter as it descended. No sound was heard.

Looking east, the object approached from the south and descended toward the ground at about a 45 degree angle. It went below the horizon in about four seconds. A plant watchman saw it at the same time. Both witnesses were considered reliable.

The Air Force comment notes the weather was clear with 15 mile visibility. The conclusion on the card was probably astronomical. The comments say the description is similar to a meteor and that the earth was passing through meteor showers at that time of year.
