Summary

On the morning of December 10, 1958, a Cleveland resident saw what he described as an oval, silvery object moving rapidly across the sky. Looking north, the witness watched the object travel east at an estimated altitude of 500 feet. The object appeared to be roughly 50 feet in length and diameter, with a height through its center of about 20 feet. It crossed an arc of approximately 60 degrees in just 3.5 seconds, suggesting considerable speed.

The witness observed the object through a window during daylight hours. He estimated it was about 30 degrees above the horizon when he saw it. The sighting was brief but left a strong enough impression that the observer wrote to the Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio to report what he had seen.

The Air Force responded by sending the witness a detailed questionnaire to gather more information about the sighting. The returned questionnaire provides the core details of the case, though portions of the witness's written responses are difficult to read in the declassified file. The Air Force evaluation form indicates the case was marked as "unknown," meaning investigators could not identify what the object was based on the information available.
