Summary

A woman in Chicago reported seeing an unusual object in the sky in September 1961. She described it as medium dark in color, tan or cocoa colored, and about the size of a car. She viewed the object through a window while looking eastward.

The witness wrote to the President on September 14, 1961, stating that she had seen an airplane that flew without wings and wheels and made no noise. The Air Force received her letter and sent her a detailed questionnaire to gather more information about what she had observed.

The Air Force investigation concluded that the information provided was insufficient for evaluation. The case file notes that only one person witnessed the event, and the description alone could not rule out ordinary explanations like a cloud. Without additional details or corroborating witnesses, the Air Force could not determine what the object actually was.

The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, comprising 13 pages.
