Project Blue Book Case File
Chicago, IllinoisCirca 1955
Summary
In 1956, a witness in Chicago saw several unidentified flying objects while playing near a railroad near the city's northwest side. The witness got a camera, and when others in the area also spotted the objects, he climbed to the top of a fire escape at a nearby school to get a better view. He took a photograph of what he saw.
When the film was developed, the image showed only a light against the sky. The witness could not identify what the objects were, though they resembled some form of aircraft to him. He mailed the photograph to the Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio for analysis.
The photograph arrived in poor condition, and the printed version showed only a light with no clear physical form. Air Force officials asked the witness to send the original film negative so they could examine it more carefully. They also requested a completed questionnaire and information about the camera and lens used. It is unclear from the file whether the negative was ever received or what conclusion, if any, the Air Force reached.
The file notes insufficient data for evaluation. The complete case file, consisting of nine pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
