Project Blue Book Case File
Chicago, IllinoisAugust 1962
Summary
On August 21, 1962, several people in Chicago, Illinois, reported an object in the night sky. The time was about 0410Z. A housewife was the main observer, and four other people, including two teenage boys and two women, saw it at the same time. It was in sight for about 2 minutes.
The witnesses described a flat, disc-shaped object like a moon, compared to a cup and saucer. It appeared to move faster than a jet. It was first seen at about 75 degrees elevation and faded out toward the west. The sky was warm and mostly clear with a few stars.
The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force said the flight matched an aircraft observation over a large city and that it was probably an aircraft sighting. Because the data was limited, the case was listed as insufficient data.
