Project Blue Book Case File
Cartegena, Columbia S.A., October 1959October 1959
Summary
On October 19, 1959, a Colombian Navy vessel near Cartagena, Colombia, reported a sighting using a sextant. The position was about 10 degrees north and 75 degrees west. The card notes the message mentioned two sightings but gave full details on only one.
The object was described as a strange luminous body, circular in form, with a brilliant center and slightly darker spots. It was said to be slightly larger than the planet Venus and to appear like an artificial satellite. Visibility was reported as perfect.
The Air Force noted that because the object looked like a satellite, that was probably the cause of the report. With only one sighting fully reported and the data inconclusive, the card lists the case as insufficient data. This was part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
