Bryn Mawr, PennsylvaniaApril 1955
Summary
On April 27, 1955, a civilian observer in the Bryn Mawr and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area reported a bright light. The man was on duty with the Ground Observer Corps, watching the sky for aircraft. He first saw the object around 9:10 p.m. and watched it for about 50 minutes, until he went off duty near 10:00 p.m.
The light changed color and shape as he watched. It first looked round, then like a cigar, and once like a boomerang. It started as a bright white spot, then alternated red and green. When first seen it was the size of a dime or quarter at arm's length. When last seen it looked like a distant star. He used only his eyeglasses, no other optical aid. He heard no sound. The object appeared in the southwest at a low to middle angle and seemed to hover or pivot.
The report came from the Office of Special Investigations and included a weather report from the U.S. Weather Bureau. The sky was cloudy but clearing, with the moon shining in the same general area. The Air Force record listed the conclusion as astronomical, the planet Jupiter, which was in the reported position.
