Summary
On September 28, 1958, civilian observers at the Tri-City Airport control tower near Bristol, Tennessee, reported a bright object. A highway patrol officer in the city of Bristol also saw it.
The object was round and about the size of a pea, with a white glow. It started as one object, then broke into several pieces. It had a long tail and made a glow in the sky. The object appeared to come toward the observer, then veered to the northeast. It was in view about 10 seconds before it appeared to burn out instantly.
The weather was high thin scattered clouds with 15 miles of visibility. The reporting office stated the description appeared to be a meteor. The witness said it looked like a meteor except that it was very bright and stayed in view for a long time.
