Project Blue Book Case File
Bremerton, WashingtonJanuary 1956
Summary
On January 29 and 30, 1956, witnesses at Bremerton, Washington, reported a strange object in the night sky. The Greenwich time ran from about 0248Z to 0254Z on January 30, with two later sightings. The observers were civilian and military.
The object was round, about four times the size of a pencil eraser at arm's length, and white in color. Through field glasses it looked about the size of a basketball. There were three separate viewing periods that night. Aircraft were in the area at the time. The sky had broken clouds.
A witness saw the object during the periods, and the reporting officer noted that two jet aircraft were recovering at McChord Air Force Base and one was taking off, all passing the area during the sightings. The officer believed those aircraft were what was observed.
The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force conclusion was probable aircraft sightings.
