Summary

On February 11, 1956, a witness saw a strange object over Bremerton, Washington. The Greenwich time was 0745Z on February 12. The sighting was at night, and the sky ranged from clear to overcast.

The object was round and orange, estimated to be about three feet across, with a sharp round outline. It seemed to give off a light blue streak when it sped up. It flew a straight line course and then rapidly accelerated and vanished toward the horizon to the southwest. The witness watched it for about 12 seconds and estimated its speed at about 600 miles per hour.

The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. Because of the straight course, the overcast sky, the duration, and the color, the Air Force conclusion was that the observer possibly saw the exhaust of a jet aircraft.
