Project Blue Book Case File
Bliss, IdahoDecember 1950
Summary
On December 11, 1950, about 12:10 p.m. mountain time, three people reported an object about two miles east of Bliss, Idaho. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The witnesses, one reported to be a pilot, were driving when they saw a round object 6 to 10 feet across, hovering about 10 feet above the ground roughly 100 yards from their car. They walked to within a few yards of it, when it suddenly climbed 800 to 1,000 feet. It hovered about a minute, then flew south about four miles. The witnesses followed by car. When they were beneath it again, it veered west about five miles in 30 seconds, then climbed away to the southwest. The witnesses gave no other description except that the object appeared to spin.
Official weather for the nearby Gooding, Idaho, area at that time showed a low overcast, one mile visibility, and fog. Because of this, investigators felt the witnesses' statements had obvious weaknesses, and the report noted a possible lack of authenticity.
