Summary

On February 18, 1956, a civilian in Beaulieu, Minnesota reported seeing an object like a basketball that was green and red. The object descended slowly in flight toward the northeast and then disappeared over the horizon. The observer noted WX balloons in the area. One object was sighted during a ground-visual observation. The duration of the sighting was not reported. The witness had excellent reliability. Red and green lights disappearing over the horizon indicated a probable aircraft sighting. Balloons tend to have an appearance of rising and fading into distance. Red and green lights are associated with aircraft lights. The Air Force evaluated the case as aircraft on limited data presented.
