Project Blue Book Case File
Baker Lake, Canada, April 1962April 1962
Summary
On April 25, 1962, observers near Baker Lake in northern Canada reported a bright object in the night sky at about 11:00 p.m. local time. The sighting lasted a very short time. The witnesses faced south and saw the object streak from east to west. The sky was clear.
The object had an elongated shape. Its color ranged from bright orange to green. Its light looked like a very bright aircraft light, but larger. The report was relayed through nearby Eskimo Point.
The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. Officials checked records of decaying satellites and found no re-entry on that date. The Air Force concluded the object was a meteor of the fireball class. They noted such bright meteors are rare and that the color and short duration fit a fast fireball moving toward the west.
