Summary

On January 28, 1956, a military witness saw a strange object near Albany, Georgia. The Greenwich time was 0051Z on January 29. The weather was clear with about 15 miles visibility.

The object was a green ball of fire. It fell straight down at a high rate of speed, dropping from about 8,200 feet to about 7,000 feet. The witness, an Air Force captain, saw it from the front yard of a residence. The duration was not reported.

The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. Based on the description, the Air Force conclusion was that the object was a meteor.
